Why Aren’t They Pulling Themselves Up By Their Bootstraps?

And why aren’t they mad at the White people? This essay questions why are angry White Trump voters blaming immigrants and Black people for them not having jobs when White politicians are then ones who created the job killing bills?

Why Aren’t They Pulling Themselves Up By Their Bootstraps?

“The immigrants are cross the border and taking our jobs.” Well just pull yourself up by your bootstraps!

“Jobs left our communities and never came back. They just forget about rural communities” Well, just pull yourself up by your bootstraps.

“I don’t know how I’m going to rebuild after the hurricane. I’m on a fixed income and I don’t have anything left.” Just dust yourself off buddy and pull yourself up by your bootstraps.

“I lost my home, my job and everything I own after Hurricane Michael. I voted for Trump. I hope he doesn’t forget about us.” Well, you damn sure better pull yourself up by your bootstraps.

All those angry Trump supporters telling Black and Brown poor people they need to pull themselves up by their bootstraps, but when these angry White GOP voters are financially strapped, in distress, and falling apart…it’s someone else’s fault.

They love to blaming other people. Threatening to take their country back. And let’s not forget how they love making their American their great again.

Except the same people selling them the Jonestown Kool-Aid and playing the blame game are the same old people who got them into this predicament in the first place. Those people are the White male GOP politicians.

Look, they are rich. They aren’t like most voters, yet they tell them they are so they can take money and power from all of us. These voters are the most gullible base there is, and they’re the majority. If these politicians can convince their supporters to be angry at Black and Brown people, then they can steal from all of us. I wish they’d stop being such goobs!

The GOP politicians tells them to be angry at other people for their misfortunes, when they are really the puppet masters who have caused their voters misfortune. Most of these politicians have been around in office for most of our lifetimes making their lives miserable, and they are too shallow to connect the dots.

These politicians (those good White GOP men) smile in their faces, then stab their impoverished voters in their backs, and all they can do to feel better about their lives is to blame innocent folks who don’t know them or anything about their job losses and financial misfortunes. That’s pure insanity.

In any event, my question is…why does everyone else poor need to pull themselves up by their bootstraps and work hard, and take care of themselves with no help at all without support to “make it”, while White lower middle-class and poor Trump/GOP supporters get to blame other people and cry about what they don’t have? Do they realize the same people are fucking all of us?

You know the reason why these Trump voters won’t pull themselves up like they instruct other people to do?

It’s because they are people who fail to take responsibility for their own actions and for the poor choices they made in life, including how they voted. They are hypocrites.

No, Mexicans aren’t taking your jobs Trumpters. They are doing jobs you guys didn’t want to do anyway, like picking fucking tomatoes and construction in the hot sun all day. White politicians, including GOP’ers, signed trade acts. They allowed employers to ship “their” jobs overseas…get the fuck over it. Do better. Pull yourself up by your bootstraps.

Why aren’t they getting mad at their favorite GOP politicians who are partly responsible, and why haven’t they stopped voting for them yet?

And even if Mexicans are taking “their” jobs… (that’s an entirely different unpacking that needs to happen another day), White men and women are hiring them (they are the largest employers in America), because they are cheaper. Because they can pay them under the table and avoid payroll and liability taxes. Capitalism rules, and it runs over White folks too.

White people are giving White people the middle finger, and the Trump people have the audacity to disparage Brown people. I mean really

These Trump people should point their White fingers at the right White people, please.

Some of the largest U.S. companies are hiring people from other countries (Brown people) on H2-A Visas and EB-3 Visas, so they don’t have to pay us fringe benefits, a decent living wage, and insure us White Trump supporter…so don’t blame the Blacks and illegal Brown, blame the White men in your party who made and/or supported these policies and laws.

People are taking jobs from White Trump supporters legally; our government has a process that makes it quite easy to do. They should try reading up on it.

If they didn’t complete school? That’s their problem, and it’s personal. Couldn’t afford to move where the better jobs were? That’s no one’s fault except theirs and the politicians who miscalculated how trade would create a new underclass of dislocated, angry workers, so they can’t blame anyone except themselves for having bad luck.

Stop being a hatin-ass!

If angry, underemployed and unemployed Trump supporters chose to stay where it was lily white, comfortable and dead instead of moving to a place where it was lively, colorful, and full of life? Those people need to take a good, hard look in the mirror.

In the meantime, I want to know what’s wrong with their boots and those straps? Why aren’t they pulling them up? They can’t seem to get right, and it’s all our fault. They are the real crisis actors!

Instead of blaming and scapegoating Black and Brown people, Trumpsters need to be big boys or girls. Angry, impoverished Trump supporters should take responsibility for their own actions, including how they choose to vote.

The only people stopping angry White Trump supporters from their America great again, are them.

For the record, while this piece mocks the bootstrap philosophy, I don’t believe in it. I am a firm believer in all of us helping each other, and no one gets anywhere in this life on their own. I have reworked resumes for veterans of all colors and ages, helped poor kids get off the streets, helped White teens get into college, helped all sorts of people get jobs…and I do it because some has helped me time and time again.

As a foster kid, I know what it is to need a helping hand and to rely on the kindness of strangers for survival. I had people there for me when my family was not. Sometimes, complete strangers treat us like family, but you have to be open to it. My philosophy in life is you never know who will have help you when you’re stuck on the side of the road, and I only want to put good things out into the world so that good things can come back to me when I need them.

Hate is a waste of time and energy and gets us no place.

There is no such thing as damn pulling yourself up by your bootstraps. So stop saying it.
